I’ll make a confession, I’ve been waiting for the debut album from Pete and the Pirates with breath that has come dangerously close to being bated.

Now I’m sure you’ve had the same eager anticipation since reading the Bullet interview with the band from August 2007.

So with all this expectation, how did the lads from Reading, UK do? Bloody well actually. Obviously there are the hugely infectious tracks that have been released as singles over the past year or so – namely ‘Come on Feet’, ‘Knots’ and ‘Mr Understanding’.

But they’ve only just gone and uncovered a host of new gems such as ‘She Doesn’t Belong to Me’, ‘Dry Wings’ and ‘Moving’. The most surprising feature of these tracks is the ease with which the band handles the quieter moments. I always wondered how they’d cope with a ballad, but on ‘She doesn’t belong’, they absolutely nail it.

Yep, the Pirates have delivered fourteen tracks of their own unique brand of music. Part guitar driven brit-pop, part jangly punk, the odd quiet moment, but always melodies aplenty. Enjoy.
